Ag Economic Symposium Feb. 14-17

Never before have Mid-South and Southeast agricultural producers faced so much risk and uncertainty prior to a season.

As the 2010 growing season approaches, producers will have to consider resistant weeds and insects, rising costs of production, an ever-changing credit scene, shakeups in the tax world and several new innovations and technologies.

A team of top-notch speakers will address these issues at the 2010 Agricultural Economic Symposium on Feb. 14-17, at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, Destin, Fla.

Sessions include agronomic techniques to reduce risks, the tax environment, the ever-changing credit scene, value expansion through asset management, farmland values and ethanol.

Richard Brock with Brock Associates will give his thoughts on how long the recession may continue and potential legislative impacts on agriculture. Brock will also provide a commodity outlook for the coming year.

Robert Fraley, executive vice president and chief technology officer, Monsanto, and Dave Rhylander, marketing lead for Deltapine cotton seed, will discuss the latest advancements in seed technology and germplasm.

Be forewarned that Elvis will be in the building — sort of. Ron Adams, an Elvis impersonator, will perform at the Monday banquet. For good golfers and hackers, a special rate has been negotiated for the hotel course, Burnt Pine Golf Club.

Register at, or call (800) 558-3431. For room reservations, call (800) 320-8115.

Sponsors for the event are Delta Farm Press, Corn and Soybean Digest, Asgrow, AgFirst, Helena, Machinerylink, Poet Nutrition and Brock Associates.
