Michigan Beef Expo at MSU Pavilion April 6-8

The state’s premier cattle event includes cattle shows, sales, trade show and youth contests.

CATTLE EVENT: The Michigan Beef Expo Supreme Champion Bull and Female will be selected April 6.

The 29th annual Michigan Beef Expo and Trade Show on April 6-8 will offer shows and sales of various cattle breeds, a cattle industry trade show, guest reception, youth educational contests, and a junior steer and heifer show.

Presented by Michigan Cattlemen’s Association and affiliated breed associations the 2018 events will be in East Lansing.

Whether you are a commercial cattle producer or a first-time cattle owner, or interested in learning more, there is something for everyone at the Michigan Beef Expo, according to George Quackenbush, executive vice president of the Michigan Cattlemen's Association.

Seedstock producers from across the Great Lakes region will exhibit Angus, Chianina, Hereford, Maine-Anjou, Shorthorn, Simmental and all other registered breeds April 6. Breed sales are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. April 7, beginning with the Herefords. All sales will be broadcast on the internet via DVAuction.

On April 6, the selection of the Michigan Beef Expo Supreme Champion Bull and Female will be at 2:30 p.m. From 4-7 p.m., Michigan’s largest cattle industry trade show will host the annual MCA member and guest reception. The MSU Block and Bridle Club will hold a livestock judging contest beginning at 3 p.m.

On April 8, the Block and Bridle Junior Steer and Heifer show begins at 8 a.m. Youth can also compete in essay, photography, graphic design, stockmanship and salesmanship contests throughout the weekend.

“Top-quality, registered beef cattle from across the region will be exhibited and sold at the Michigan Beef Expo, says Jeff Kala, president of the Michigan Cattlemen’s Association. “Visitors will see many different breeds of cattle, interact with experienced seedstock producers and get the latest technology, equipment, information and genetics to improve their herds.”

All events are free and open to the public. The Michigan Beef Expo will be held at the MSU Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education, 4301 Farm Lane in East Lansing.
