NEW LAB: Maxxam Analytics, a Canadian company that provides testing for animal food, has chosen the Kansas State University campus at Olathe for a new 3,000-square-foot laboratory, stating that it wanted to be in the KC Animal Health Corridor.

Maxxam Analytics, a leading North American provider of food, environmental, industrial hygiene and DNA analytical testing services, has opened a 3,000-square-foot analytical food testing laboratory at Kansas State University Olathe.

“The Maxxam food laboratory has been selected as the laboratory of choice for leading food companies, for its capability of producing high-quality analytical results, extensive scientific expert knowledge and exceptional customer service. We are pleased to extend this level of service to the KC Animal Health Corridor,” says Tony Fishback, vice president and general manager of Food Science and Safety Services at Maxxam Analytics.

“Maxxam is proud of our ongoing partnership with Kansas State University Olathe as we provide food testing — an essential component of the animal nutrition industry — to the list of services provided in the KC Animal Health Corridor,” says Donna Garbutt, CEO of Maxxam Analytics.

With more than 50 years of expertise, Maxxam looks to establish itself as the clear choice for analytical food testing within the Animal Health Corridor for both existing and new business partners. The company will test a new delivery model for its products to expand nationwide.

"K-State Olathe's partnership with Maxxam will have many benefits for Greater Kansas City's workforce and for pets everywhere," says Ralph Richardson, dean and CEO of K-State Olathe. "Maxxam is helping ensure that our pets are consuming safer food, creating new jobs in Olathe and helping usher in a more skilled workforce for the region.”

KCADC worked with a number of regional partners in attracting Maxxam Analytics to the region: State of Kansas, Kansas Department of Commerce, Kansas State University Olathe, Olathe Chamber of Commerce, KCP&L and the KC Animal Health Corridor.

“Maxxam brings important testing expertise to our region and to the animal health industry,” says Kimberly Young, president of the KC Animal Health Corridor. “We are eager to see them grow through their connections at K-State Olathe and the industry concentration in the corridor.”

Companies with a business location in the KC Animal Health Corridor account for more than half of the sales generated by the global animal health industry. The corridor, anchored by Manhattan, Kan., and Columbia, Mo., is home to more than 300 animal health companies, representing the largest concentration in the world. For more information, visit
