Bull escapes arena at Redding Rodeo, injures five

The bull jumped the fence and was captured near the Sundial Bridge, a local landmark.

A bull jumped over the arena fence at the Redding Rodeo in Northern California on May 20, injuring five people before being captured nearby, the city's daily newspaper reported.

Livestock handlers caught the bull near the Sundial Bridge, a glass foot bridge that crosses the Sacramento River, and moved it into a trailer, according to the Redding Record Searchlight.

Rodeo officials said five people were injured, and local police said none of the injuries were life-threatening, the newspaper reported. The bull escaped the arena during a bull-riding competition.

This wasn't the first time a large animal escaped into crowds in Northern California. A bull jumped into the stands at the 2008 Red Bluff Round-Up, and in 2010, a pregnant cow escaped her pen and ran through the grounds at the California State Fair in Sacramento before it was shot to death by police.
