Soil and water conservation methods can increase profitability in livestock operations and the how-to’s will be explained at the Arkansas Grazing Lands Conference set for Aug. 21-22.

The conference will be held at the Wyndham Hotel in North Little Rock. Registration for the two days is $125. To register, call (501) 682-2915.

“We want to show that conservation and profit are not mutually exclusive, but rather that pasture management can improve soil and water conservation, which can, in turn, increase profitability,” said Paul Casey, president of the Arkansas Grazing Lands Coalition.

The agenda includes Jim Gerrish, American Grazing Lands Services, speaking about “Understanding Grass Growth,” and “Matching Grazing Systems to Environment.” John Wood, of U.S. Wellness Meats, will address “Marketing Grass-Finished Beef,” and Texas producer Gary Price will talk about “Grazing Management and Wildlife.”

“This will be a very comprehensive conference for serious graziers,” said John Jennings, professor-forages, for the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture and Extension adviser with the Arkansas Grazing Lands Coalition.
