Foothill grape growers are invited to a Grape Pruning Field Day on Feb. 13, at 1:00 p.m., at the Sobon Estate Vineyards, 14430 Shenandoah Road, Plymouth, Calif.

The guest speaker is Dr. Andy Walker, professor, University of California viticulture and enology department. Dr. Walker will demonstrate pruning in spur pruned bilateral cordon trained vines and spur pruned head trained vines of several varieties.

How pruning affects “vine balance” will be discussed, plus the impact of last year’s spring freeze.

If it rains on the scheduled field day, the event will be postponed to Feb. 27.

Registration is $5 per person. Growers can pre-register by Feb. 11, online at http://ceeldorado.ucdavis.edu or in person at the UCCE office located in the Bethell-Delfino Agriculture Building, 311 Fair Lane in the Government Center in Placerville.

To register at the door, call Robin Cleveland at (530) 621-5528 to RSVP.
