What you hope to accomplish with tillage today varies greatly depending upon your goals. They can range from leaving little residue on top to leaving as much residue on top as possible. There are no new moldboard plows in the lineup of new tillage tools editors discovered at farm shows. Instead, there are tools that  give you flexibility to product the type of tilled field in the fall or seedbed in the spring that you want.

Several short-line companies are entering this space. In fact, Case IH is the only major, full-line company introducing a tool which fits in this category, and it is designed for those who want to leave some residue. McFarlane brings out a tool which can help you finesse fields for planting. Great Plains introduces the Qualidisc to the U.S., fine-tuning this product — which has been successful elsewhere — so that it develops a uniform finish before planting.

Salford introduces two new tools, the Halo HD for those who want a disk which can operate at high speeds, and the Halo AerWay tool for those who want to till deeper with shattertines, which were common on AerWay tools, but who also want to level up the soil surface afterward.

Landoll introduces a new, upgraded version of its popular 9650 field cultivator. This pull-type version also has other upgrades that make for smoother field operation.
