Farmers using a round baler to gather up feed, crop residues or other materials have a new machine for helping move those bales for more efficient handling. ProAg, the hay product division of Morris Industries, has rolled out the ProAg Bale Hiker designed to make handling round bales easier. The machine will handle a variety of round bales, regardless of the material, including alfalfa, cornstalks, beanstalks, pea stalks, straw or high moisture material.

The ProAg Hiker features a walking axle that allows pulling the machine over rough terrain easier and it has been tested as a material handler for cornstalk bales destined for ethanol plants. The bale gets picked up on the right side of the pulling unit. The loading arm, which has a built-in bale turner, gives the operator the ability to approach a bale from almost any direction and turn the bale prior to picking and lifting it to load onto the Hiker. The machine uses two hydraulic tractor remotes. The operator can unload a single side of bales at one time, or both sides together.
