Once upon a time, Grandpa, or perhaps even Dad, went to the co-op in town for tires. After telling the clerk which size of front and rear tires was needed, he soon was on his way home with a new set for his tractor. There were minimal choices in ag tires.

Those days are long gone. Our Farm Progress editors will attest to it, as they checked out the new tires now available during the Farm Progress Show and Husker Harvest Day. Browse through farm shows today and there is a wide choice in the tire you can select. The choices seem endless.

Fortunately, there are experts who can help you make decisions depending upon how you want to use your tractor, combine, sprayer or grain cart. Check out this lineup of new tires. Here is a look at just a few:

Titan/Goodyear tires. This company has pioneered LSW technology tires designed to hold up well when running tractors with very low tire pressure, compared to historic recommendations. It’s a plus for minimizing soil compaction and achieving other benefits. Titan also understands how to utilize variation in tread and lug design to focus on the precise jobs you intend to do with the machine.

Soucy S-tech 990 track system. Want tracks on your grain cart instead of the tires on it now? Don’t want to trade for a new cart with tracks? See what Soucy does with this aftermarket solution. It is a bolt-on track system that will fit on most grain cart hubs. Spokespersons say you can make the switch in a couple hours. It will also work on other tools, including manure spreaders and air seeders to convert them to tracks instead of tires.

Yokohoma Alliance Agri Star II tire. This tire has a unique tread design. It comes with Stratified Layer technology — a unique combination of two layers. The result is significantly longer wear time, spokespersons say.
