New for the SC AgriBiz & Farm Expo set for Jan. 23-24 at the Florence Center in Florene, S.C., are Lunch ‘n Learn sessions for farmers, women in agriculture and other agribusiness leaders to gain knowledge which will help their businesses grow.

“Education is what the SC AgriBiz & Farm Expo is all about. These Lunch ‘n Learns are a great way to enjoy a good meal and learn something new at the same time. Attendees can grab a special lunch featuring local products and pick one of the Lunch ‘n Learns that interest them most,” says show manager Jody Martin.

Lunch ‘n Learns are scheduled for both days of the Expo. In addition to the Lunch ‘n Learn sessions, two general sessions and five educational tracks will be part of the Expo. Topics include growing industrial hemp in South Carolina, maximizing corn and soybean yields, trade and the farm bill. Sessions will also be held on livestock production and fruit and vegetable production.

Lunch ‘n Learn sessions set for Wednesday, Jan. 23 include ‘Online Marketing: What You Thought You Knew” presented by Jan Nirri with Success Factor Consultants; and “Environmental Controlled Growing in Greenhouses” presented by Dave Kowert and Thomas McNeil with NextTrack Consulting.

For Thursday, Jan. 24, Kevin Yon, Sunbelt Southeastern Farmer of the Year will tell the story of Yon Family Farms and the success they have seen in raising Angus seedstock cattle. A son and grandson of sharecroppers, Yon and his family from Ridge Spring, S.C., have established Yon Family Farms as one of the best Angus seedstock herds in the nation.

Also, on Thursday, a Lunch ‘n Learn session will be held on farm succession planning. Mike Beachy, regional program director for Nationwide’s Land as Your Legacy program, will speak on “What do I Want for the Future of My Farm and My Family?” where he will offer practical advice on inheritance and passing the farm to future generations.

The Expo features a field crops track, a fruit and vegetable track, a livestock track and a women in agriculture track. In addition to the educational sessions, the Expo will include more than 100 exhibitors of farm equipment, supplies and services. Admission is free.

“Whether you produce cotton, soybeans or corn or grow peaches or vegetables, there will be something for you at the expo,” Martin says. “We know there will be a lot of interest in the two industrial hemp sessions on Wednesday afternoon and a lot of interest in the two maximizing corn and soybean yield seminars presented by Dr. Ron Heiniger with North Carolina State and champion North Carolina farmer Kevin Matthews on Thursday.”
