What’s new with crop nutrient management to improve and protect water quality in Iowa? Tune in to the next Iowa Learning Farms webinar at noon Jan. 15 to learn about the Iowa Nutrient Research Center.
Matt Helmers, director of the center, will discuss some of the research projects funded by the center, as well as current activities. The research focuses on nutrient export from agricultural land and the performance of soil and water conservation practices. This research is important for improving our understanding of the performance of nutrient reduction practices and development of new methods for reducing nutrient loss.
Finding answers to farmers’ questions
“The center is interested in hearing from stakeholders what they think are the most pressing research questions,” Helmers says.
The Iowa Nutrient Research Center was established by the Iowa Board of Regents in response to legislation passed by the Iowa Legislature in 2013. The center pursues science-based approaches to areas that include evaluating the performance of current and emerging nutrient management practices and providing recommendations on implementing the practices and developing new practices.
