Farmers and ranchers are invited to participate in four webinars on crop insurance in December. The free webinars are being offered by the Center for Rural Affairs. 

These sessions are for beginning and any other farmers and ranchers who may be unfamiliar with how crop insurance works and whether it is applicable for their operations.

“Many farmers and ranchers grow or raise crops and livestock that are not covered by traditional policies,” says Anna Johnson, policy manager with the Center for Rural Affairs. “This webinar series is designed to provide information on insurance options that are not as well known.”

Rural Resiliency Forum in Iowa

Also announced last week by the Center for Rural Affairs is an upcoming public forum to be held in central Iowa. Central Iowa community leaders are welcome to attend a Rural Resiliency Forum on Dec. 10 in the town of Madrid. Local leaders will facilitate a discussion about strategies to build community resilience.

The Rural Resiliency Forum, hosted by the Center for Rural Affairs, will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Madrid Community Center, 303 S. Water St. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

“Across Iowa, residents of rural communities are asking what they can do to help their towns become more resilient,” says Cody Smith, policy associate at the Center for Rural Affairs. “We’re excited to host this forum to discuss how water quality, renewable energy and climate policy can play a role in building a brighter future for rural Iowa.”

Keep rural areas strong

The forum will feature local leaders from the surrounding area who will share their work and experiences. Community members are encouraged to come prepared with topics and strategies they would like to explore.

“This event will be a hands-on opportunity where farmers, businessowners, local officials and other community members can have a dialogue about what a more resilient community looks like,” Smith says. “We believe leadership at the local and state levels is critical to ensure communities like Madrid are better equipped for their futures.” For more information and to RSVP to this event, visit cfra.org/events.
