The following is the latest Arizona Agri-Weekly report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service’s Phoenix, Ariz., Field Office:

• Field crops

Cotton harvesting is 83 percent complete, ahead of last year at 74 percent, and ahead of the five-year average of 81 percent. Alfalfa conditions range from poor to good.

Sheeping off is active in western and central alfalfa acres in Arizona. Range and pasture conditions are mostly very poor, depending on location and elevation.

• Vegetables, fruit, and specialty crops

Central Arizona growers shipped broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupes, greens, honeydews, spinach, and lemons.

Western Arizona growers shipped arugula, broccoli, cantaloupes, cauliflower, celery, cilantro, Chinese cabbage, endive, escarole, frisee, honeydews, kale, Boston, iceberg, and romaine lettuce, and green leaf, red leaf lettuce, bok choy, parsley, spinach, cantaloupes, honeydews, and miscellaneous melons this week.

• Weather summary

Temperatures were mostly below normal across Arizona for the week ending Dec. 6, ranging from 7 degrees below normal at Canyon De Chelly to normal at Yuma. The highest temperature of the week was 76 degrees at Parker and Roll; the lowest reading of minus 6 degrees occurred at Grand Canyon.

Precipitation was reported at nine of the 22 stations. Flagstaff, Maricopa, and Prescott received .01 inches and Douglas received .46 inches of precipitation. There are no reporting stations with above normal precipitation. Twenty of the 22 stations show less than 60 percent of normal precipitation.
