March 24, 2020, has been proclaimed National Ag Day by President Trump. This is the fourth year Trump has recognized National Ag Day as a salute to the contributions of America’s farmers, ranchers and agribusinesses.

Receiving this type of recognition from the administration and USDA greatly enhances the stature of National Ag Day, as well as the many local and state Ag Day activities planned around the country, said Greg Horstmeier, DTN/Progressive Farmer, chairman of the board for the Agriculture Council of America, the national organization charged with promoting National Ag Day. “More importantly, it reminds everyone that the affordable, abundant and nutritious food that they depend on every day comes to them thanks to the hard work and resilience of 2 million American farmers and ranchers.”

The proclamation highlights the American values of hard work, perseverance, and stewardship of the land. It also stresses that farmers provide the foundation of a national economic supply chain that is critical to our national security and prosperity.   The entire proclamation can be viewed at https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-national-agriculture-day-2020/.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue issued a statement on Trump's proclamation, saying, “Today, on National Ag Day, I challenge the American public to keep our farmers, ranchers and producers on their minds – for all their work to provide us a safe, healthy and abundant food supply. We owe them a debt of gratitude.”
