Delegates accepted the slate of officers prepared by the nominating committee at the recent Indiana FFA Convention. After three days of interviewing, the committee selected seven of the 19 individuals to represent Indiana this year as state officers.

The new officers are: Claire Baney, Hamilton Southeastern FFA, president; Emily Kilmer, Tri-County FFA, secretary; Owen Coon, North Montgomery FFA, northern region vice president; Wyatt Law, Hoosier Hills FFA, southern region vice president; Cole Pearson, Delphi FFA, treasurer; Natalie Taylor, Hope FFA, reporter; and Grant Sanchez, Fairfield FFA, sentinel.

These officers assumed duties at the end of convention, and will serve as full-time officers for the entire year, delaying their entry into college or other training until the 2018-19 school year.

The newly elected officers will live at the Indiana FFA Leadership Training Center near Trafalgar. They will be supervised by Joe Martin, Indiana FFA program specialist.

Events these newly elected state officers can look forward to include working at the Indiana State Fair in the FFA Pavilion; helping with the Titan Tire/FFA auction at the 2017 Farm Progress Show near Decatur, Ill.; conducting chapter visits and district kickoff activities in September to begin the new school year; and preparing to be delegates at National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October.

Other duties include business and industry tours to current and potential Indiana FFA sponsors and donors in December, followed by preparation for National FFA Week, district leadership contests, more chapter visits and speaking engagements during banquet season. Finally, they will work on preparation for the 2018 Indiana FFA Convention, June 18-21. State officers plan the convention, including writing scripts and their own speeches.
