Pennsylvania and New York rank in the Top 10 states for organic sales, according to the 2019 Certified Organic Survey by the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
New York state has 1,321 certified organic farms that sold a total of $298 million in organic products in 2019, up 38% from the $216 million in 2016. Pennsylvania has 1,048 certified organic farms that sold a total of $742 million in organic products in 2019, up 12% from $660 million in 2016.
The NASS survey also shows that 16,585 certified organic farms in the U.S. sold a total of $9.9 billion in organic products in 2019, up 31.4% from $7.6 billion in 2016.
Here are other highlights from the Northeast:
Connecticut has 63 certified organic farms that sold a total of $6.2 million in organic products in 2019, down 11% from $6.9 million in 2016.
Delaware has 12 certified organic farms that sold a total of $13.6 million in organic products in 2019.
Maine has 456 certified organic farms that sold a total of $63.8 million in organic products in 2019, down 3% from $65.6 million in 2016.
Maryland has 121 certified organic farms that sold a total of $50.1 million in organic products in 2019, more than double the value of $17.7 million in 2016.
Massachusetts has 133 certified organic farms that sold a total of $32.9 million in organic products in 2019, up 26% from $26.1 million in 2016.
New Hampshire has 80 certified organic farms that sold a total of $11.3 million in organic products in 2019, up 25% from $9.1 million in 2016.
New Jersey has 68 certified organic farms that sold a total of $26.2 million in organic products in 2019, nearly triple the value of $8.8 million in 2016.
Rhode Island has 20 certified organic farms that sold a total of $2.2 million in organic products in 2019, down 4% from $2.3 million in 2016.
Vermont has 655 certified organic farms that sold a total of $160 million in organic products in 2019, up 26% from $127 million in 2016.
