Almost everyone realizes that the new National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility is going up in Manhattan.

Fewer people, however; realize that the BioSecurity Research Institute, a Level-3 biocontainment laboratory sits next door in Pat Roberts Hall. Scientists there conduct research on a number of diseases that threaten both animal and human health.

The BRI provides Kansas State University scientists and their collaborators with a safe and secure location to study high-consequence pathogens affecting plants, animals, and food products.

NBAF is years away; high-security research already done at K-State

The BRI is a unique facility that provides research and training space to support animal disease scientists, food safety researchers, plant pathologists, entomologists, and those studying the basic molecular biology of high-consequence animal, human, and plant pathogens.
