U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.) was pleased this week that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development approved grant funding to improve sewage and wastewater facilities in Paradise, Gridley, and Biggs, all in Northern California.

A breakdown of the grants for each city can be found linked below:

Paradise – $172,320.00 for engineering studies for the proposed new sewage system.

Gridley – $139,820.00 to fund an Inflow and Infiltration Study for the current waste water collection system.

Biggs – $2,996,397.00 to purchase land for the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

LaMalfa said: “This investment by the USDA is a great start for cities in Butte County that are in dire need of infrastructure improvements, especially in regards to sewage and waste water facilities. The town of Paradise was almost entirely destroyed by the Camp Fire less than a year ago, and residents cannot effectively rebuild until a modernized sewage system is in place. Senator Feinstein and I have worked together to make Paradise eligible for funding like this, and I’m glad USDA is wasting little time to distribute it. This is just the beginning, but these are welcome investments that will improve the quality of life for thousands of people in Paradise, Gridley, and Biggs.”
