Happy Thanksgiving!!
Mike Pearson takes a look at cranberries-- an important staple on the Thanksgiving table.
Many people will be making their own or 76 percent will be buying it in a can.
Consumers consume about 5 million gallons a year of cranberry sauce.
It's a dish full of history. It was noted that a book from 1672 made a reference to cranberries boiled with sugar to eat with meat.
Other history shows roasting turkey with cranberries and onions was very popular in history.
The prices are down nearly 20 percent from last year due to large crops in USA and Canada.
Wisconsin is the largest producer of cranberries with 4.97 million barrels of the berries produced this year.
Massachusetts is the second largest producer. Despite weather issues early this spring, the state produced over 1.9 million barrels.
Even Canada has been growing more and more cranberries.
