Mike Pearson tells listeners how gasoline with 15 percent ethanol is coming to gas pumps in 8 Midwestern states beginning in the summer of 2025. And it will come a year-long thing.

After 2 years of legal wrangling, the governors in 8 Midwestern States are succeeding in getting gasoline with 15 percent ethanol to be a year round item at the gas pump. However, it can't start until the summer of 2025.

The U.S. EPA made the announcement last week. A special waiver was granted after the governors in Iowa, Illinois. Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Minnesota and Missouri filed an exemption from the federal RVP rules.

The decision was cautiously optimistic by the corn and the renewable fuel association. The organizations are glad to hear the decision but question the timeline and wonder how it will impact consumers this summer.

In summer, 2022 and 2023, the EPA issued emergency waivers for the production and sale of the ethanol which helped with the supply and prices.

U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says he expected a similar declaration this spring.

This benefits more than the consumer.

Farm Futures Editor Jaqueline Holland says E15 sales likely sustained corn prices last year during the weak corn export season.

She added 22.6 million bushels were consumer-- which is more than the summer of 2021 which would be the last comparable season.
