When congress gets back to work following the August recess, they have a farm bill debate waiting.
The Senate is ready to go, having already passed a bill and named conferees. The house has not named conferees yet and still may have to pass a nutrition bill before they tackle farm legislation.
And they have nine days to get it all done. The 2008 farm law expires at the end of September.
The issue is made more ticklish as the House works on the contentious nutrition bill and a Republican right wing that appears adverse to compromise.
