Two free meetings on growing sorghum for silage in California will be held in early March.

The March 7 meeting will be held in Madera at the Madera County Farm Bureau office, 1102 S. Pine St. The March 9 meeting is at the UCCE Tulare County office, 4437 S. Laspina St., Tulare.

Both meetings are from 10 a.m. to noon with a sponsored lunch afterwards.

The meetings will present current information on sorghum silage in California.

Agenda:

  • Variety selection considerations - Jeff Dahlberg, director, Kearney Agricultural Research & Extension Center;

  • Water and nutrient use - Bob Hutmacher, UCCE Agronomy Specialist & West Side REC director;

  • Invasive pests – how to manage for sugarcane aphid - Nicholas Clark, farm advisor, UCCE Kings, Tulare, and Fresno counties; and

  • 2016 sorghum silage quality report - Jennifer Heguy, farm advisor, UCCE Merced, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin counties.
