UCCE Walnut Meeting March 1 in Woodland

A half-day walnut meeting takes place March 1 at Norton Hall in Woodland, Calif.

A tri-county walnut meeting for Sacramento, Solano and Yolo counties takes place March 1 in Woodland from 8 a.m. to noon.

The event will be held at Norton Hall, 70 Cottonwood St.

Put on by the University of California Cooperative Extension, the meeting may offer 0.5 hour CEU credits each in professional development and laws. DPR hours were requested. Other CEU units may also be available.

7:45 a.m. – Registration

8 a.m. – Laws and Regulations update with the Yolo County Ag Commissioner’s office;

8:30 a.m. – Update on the Food Safety Modernization Act with Melissa Partyka, UC Davis;

9 a.m. – California Walnut Board and Commission update;

9:30 a.m. – Update on Botryosphaeria/Phomopsis, blight and anthracnose: Janine Hasey, UCCE farm advisor;

10 a.m. – Break;

10:20 a.m. – Scale life cycle and management and Navel orangeworm, Emily Symmes, UCIPM;

10:50 a.m. – Mite management, Nick Mills, UC Berkeley;

11:20 a.m. – Orchard removal, fumigation and nematodes, Andreas Westphal, UCCE nematode specialist; and

11:50 a.m. – Local research updates, Katherine Pope, UCCE Farm Advisor.
