NOT GOING BACK: Frank Rademacher says his family was lucky to avoid a large drop in yield when transitioning to no-till from a conventional system. But it was also more than luck: Cover crops sped up the transition to a new microbial community.
The Rademacher farm in Gifford, Ill., leapt into no-till with both feet after experimenting with planting cover crops and foregoing tillage. Starting in 2016, they’ve deployed the strategies together on all 570 acres they farm.
