A Uvalde workshop scheduled for July 18 will help cotton producers understand new rules in dealing with generic acres and production as part of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, which amended the 2014 Farm Bill adding seed cotton as a covered commodity.
The workshop is free and will begin at 9 a.m. at the Uvalde County Fairplex-Dry Frio Room at 215 Veterans Lane. It is open to producers in Medina, Uvalde, Zavala and Kinney counties.
“New choices will need to be made for each tract with a U.S. Department of Agriculture-Farm Service Agency number by later this summer,” said Marcel Valdez, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for Zavala County. “Each producer who does not have prior knowledge of these changes will need to be introduced to the new rules and how these rules will apply to their operation.”
For more information and to sign up for the workshop, contact Valdez at 830-374-288, Samantha Korzekwa, AgriLife Extension agent for Uvalde County at 830-278-6661, or Sandra Kunkel, AgriLife Extension agent for Medina County at 830-741-6180.
