More than 240 entries competed in the 23rd World's Forage Analysis Superbowl at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis.

Contest categories include Hay and Baleage within the Commercial Division, and Hay, Haylage, Standard Corn Silage and Dairy Corn silage (brown mid-rib) within the Dairy Division.

Finalists from Minnesota included:

BMR: Twin River Dairy, Freeport, 4,166 pounds milk per ton, 22,158 pounds dairy herd average

Haylage, Dairy Division: McNallan Farms, Kellogg 3,442 pounds milk per ton; 28,949 pounds dairy herd average

Commercial Hay Division: David Popowski, Ivanhoe, 3,263 pounds milk per ton; Rick Weber, Madison, 3,413 pounds milk per ton

Hay, Dairy Division: David Skiba, North Branch, 3,210 pounds per ton; David Popowski, North Branch, 3,105 pounds milk per ton

Dairy samples are judged on lab analysis (60%), visual judging (20%), herd production information (10%) and calculated milk per ton (10%). Commercial entries are judged on lab analysis (70%) and visual judging (30%). Visual judging consists of analyzing the color, texture, maturity and leafiness, depending on the category.
