With harvest around the corner, inside you’ll find innovative farmers sharing timely information about how they are improving soil and water quality – plus overcoming challenges – with cover crops and strip-till.

This issue explores how farmers and retailers are teaming up to reduce nitrate loss, using the Sustain program to make multiple nitrogen applications to corn at the right times. Another story examines 15 years of water quality research in the Racoon River (Iowa) watershed, shedding light on how buried soybean residue can leak nitrates into tile water. Also check out the growing problem caused by resistant Palmer Amaranth and waterhemp. Plus, don’t miss advice from our columnists: David Kohl, Ed Usset and Dan Frieberg.
