Whoever said “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” was truly inspired. Is the warehouse pictured here a sign of progress, or does it represent a transition away from agriculture? Obviously, it depends upon your point of view.
Regardless of how you view this scene, it’s a common sight along Indiana’s highways, especially near interstates. No offense intended for Cooper Tires — its facility just happened to be along the path on a photo shoot. Light from the day was just coming over the building. You decide if it was a rising or setting sun. Here’s a clue: The photographer faced northwest.
Do you know where this warehouse is located? Send the county, town or closest interstate, and if correct, it will put you in the drawing for a $25 gift card. Email to [email protected] or mail to: 599 N., 100 W., Franklin, IN 46131. Please include your mailing address.
Artistic cow
So, where was Indiana Prairie Farmer when we spotted the modern mural of the dairy cows, pictured in the December issue and online? If you answered LaGrange in LaGrange County, Ind., you’re right. This artwork is located on the street running east on the north side of the courthouse. The hitching post for buggies is on the west side of the courthouse, and there is a second mural on the south side.
Congratulations to Jeff Conrad, Waterloo, Ind., former vocational-agriculture teacher at Lakeland High School near LaGrange, winner of the drawing. He advised us that the mural was painted by Amy Buchs. According to Conrad, Buchs, a farmer’s daughter, knows a few things about dairy cattle! She painted the mural as part of a special project in 2020.
