The Economics of Feral Hog Control, a workshop conducted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, is set from 8:30 a.m.-noon April 24 at the Sutton County Civic Center, 1700 N. Crockett St. in Sonora.

“Feral swine are an ever-growing problem in Sutton County and our part of the state,” said Pascual Hernandez, AgriLife Extension agent in Sutton County. “Though they are destructive year-round, livestock and wildlife managers take big losses from feral hogs at lambing, kidding and fawning times.”

Registration is $15 by April 19 and $25 thereafter. The cost covers program materials, refreshments and a noon meal. For more information and to register, call the AgriLife Extension office in Sutton County at 325-387-3101.

Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units, one integrated pest management and two general, will be offered.

“Our goal for this program is to bring producers up to date on the latest developments relating to this pest in our area and to offer cost-effective options to stymie their depredations.”

Topics will include The Cost of Doing Nothing, Population Dynamics and Estimated Costs of Feral Hog Control, The Effects of Abatement on Wild Hog Behavior, and Updates on Feral Swine Control Research.
