MANA (Makhteshim Agan of North America, Inc.) has received registration for Silencer insecticide containing the active ingredient lambda-cyhalothrin.

Silencer is the first post-patent lambda-cy registered for use in the United States and will be available in a 1 EC formulation. Silencer received full EPA registration for use on cotton, alfalfa, rice, vegetables, soybeans, cereals, grain sorghum and peanuts — all varieties and hybrids, including Bt.

According to MANA, Silencer delivers quick knockdown and long residual on a wide range of troublesome pests, including armyworms and loopers in vegetables, cutworms in corn, plus weevils, heliothis spp. and plant bugs in cotton.

“Lambda-cyhalothrin is the most valuable broad spectrum insecticide on the market,” said Rick Beardmore, product manager for MANA, “and we are pleased to be in a position to offer Silencer in time for the growing season.”

MANA will offer a grower trial use program to encourage early acceptance, said Beardmore. “We are optimistic for the launch of Silencer in 2005, be looking for it.”
