Western Farm Press and Compass Minerals are sponsoring a webinar on “Potassium Applications in Almonds: A major nutrient for ‘monster’ crops” at 11 a.m. (Pacific Standard Time) on Thursday, Feb. 27.
The one-hour, live webinar will feature presentations by two expert scientists, the University of California’s David Doll, Pomology Farm Adviser for Merced, Calif., and Franz Niederholzer, Pomology Farm Advisor for Sutter & Yuba County.
With almond growers facing unique challenges from drought and environmental issues in 2014, Doll and Niederholzer will talk about a number of topics aimed at helping them maintain almond production at sustainable levels.
They will provide a brief review of soil potassium from soil differences to potassium movement within the soil and talk about a potassium fertility/nutrition assessment in tree crops – including potassium in almonds and its role in bud development and tree growth.
They will also discuss the best potassium fertilizer materials and application methods:
n Potassium sources
n Dormant applications
n In-season applications
n General recommendations for soil types
n Considerations for off yeas and weather events.
