An updated South Dakota State University publication compares the performance of a number of sunflower hybrids grown in South Dakota.

SDSU EC909-08, the 2008 South Dakota Sunflower Hybrid Performance Trials, is available at agbiopubs.sdstate.edu/articles/EC909-08.pdf or ask for it at your county Extension office.

The publication presents information on oilseed sunflower varieties grown in regions near Bison, Miller, Eureka, Onida, and Reliance, along with averages over all locations. More than 70 specific hybrid varieties are compared in several tables, and the publication includes information on the fatty acid profiles for several hybrids.

The confection hybrid varieties grown at Onida and Miller are also discussed. Twenty different hybrid varieties were tested in the confection trials.

South Dakota Cooperative Extension Oilseeds Specialist Kathleen Grady, Extension Agronomist Thandiwe Nleya, Research Associate John Rickertsen, Senior Ag Research Technician Lee Gilbertson, and the SDSU plant science department contributed to the 22-page publication.
