Export sales of corn and wheat for the week ended Sept. 15 were up from the previous week’s numbers, while soybean sales were down, however sales of all three topped the weekly pace needed to match USDA’s annual forecasts.

USDA’s weekly export report on Thursday said 2016/2017 corn sales totaled 36.3 million bushels and were led by Mexico, Peru and South Korea.

The 2016/2017 soybean sales of 32.2 million bushels were led by China, unknown destinations and South Korea. 

The 20.6 million bushels of wheat sales were up 40% from the prior week and led by Mexico, Peru and Brazil.

In daily reporting on Thursday, USDA said China bought 4.41 million bushels of U.S. soybeans and 4.41 million of optional-origin soybeans and unknown destinations bought 5.55 million bushels of soybeans. The optional-origin soybeans to China can be sourced from the U.S. or other suppliers.The three sales are 2016/2017 soybeans and will be added to future weekly export reports.

Chicago’s crop futures markets had little reaction to the numbers with corn futures a fraction lower in nearby months when the overnight session closed shortly after the export report. Soybean futures were about 3 cents higher in nearby months. Soft red winter wheat futures were up about a penny, hard red winter down about a penny and spring wheat up about 1 cent.

Old-crop soymeal export sales of 24,600 metric tons were down 44% from a week ago with Ecuador, Morocco and Guatemala the leading buyers.  The soymeal crop year concludes at the end of September. New-crop soymeal sales of 133,400 matched trade forecasts and were led by unknown destinations, Mexico and El Salvador.

Sorghum sales for the 2016/2017 crop year of 1.5 million bushels were down from a week ago went to China.
