Several speakers will provide insight on the economics behind sustainable agriculture at Morgan Composting’s 15th annual Soil Health Seminar on Aug. 16 in Sears, Mich.

Keynote speaker is John Ikerd, professor emeritus of agricultural economics at the University of Missouri. Other speakers include:

• Edwin Suarez, technical agronomist at Midwestern BioAg

• Kristin Poley, lab manager for the Michigan State University Applied Nematology Lab

• Fred Monroe, Monroe Family Organics

Lunch, tours of the Morgan Composting operation, and a social hour with wine tasting are all included.

Morgan Composting is a family business that was started in 1996 by Brad Morgan and his father, Dale. The Morgans began composting as a solution to a manure problem on their 200-head dairy operation. Now the cows have been sold and just a composting operation remains. This operation is the Dairy Doo line of products — soil amendments that can heal overworked soils by using composted manures, organic matter and science.
