USA Rice Federation members met with staff from the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Pesticide Programs and staff from EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson's office. The group expressed their concerns to EPA officials over the agency's proposed ban on sulfuryl fluoride, used by the rice industry as a fumigant and targeted for elimination by the EPA. Elimination of sulfuryl fluoride would leave rice mills with no major fumigant for structural fumigation.
