Disease pressure building into Louisiana rice fields

Louisiana rice farmers thought they might have a light disease year because of the drought conditions that have battered the state. That hasn’t been the case, however. Bacterial panicle blight, a disease which likes hot, dry weather, has moved into a number of fields in Southwest Louisiana. Dr. Don Groth, plant pathologist, discussed the disease outlook and ongoing research during the station’s annual Rice Field Day.
