As a part of National Rice Month (NRM) promotions, USA Rice conducted a survey to gain insight into rice usage and preferences. More than 100 consumers participated in the survey and the feedback provides guidance to the U.S. rice industry.

All respondents reported eating rice frequently with nearly half indicating they eat both brown and white rice.  Thirty-three percent reported eating rice two to three times per week. The versatility of rice in pairing with other healthy foods was the most appealing thing about rice according to 70 percent of participants. Fifty-five percent of respondents indicated that they eat rice most as a side dish and the favorite dish among participants is chicken and rice followed closely by fried rice and rice pudding.

Since Sept. 1, USA Rice Federation's NRM Facebook weekly recipe challenge and rice usage survey has prompted more than 3,000 consumers to "like" rice on the USA Rice Facebook page. In the coming week, winners of an American Express gift card and an Aroma rice cooker will be randomly selected from those respondents that participated in the survey and contributed to our Facebook page.
