Mississippi State University will hold the first North Mississippi Peanut Field Day on Aug. 29 in Coahoma County. Registration for the half-day event begins at 9 a.m.

Activities will include updates by MSU research and Extension specialists, as well as harvest demonstrations. The event will be held at Mark and John Agostinelli’s farm on Monty Martin Road off New Africa Road in Clarksdale.

Snacks will be provided by the Mississippi Peanut Growers Association.

“We have had an increase in acreage for peanut production in the Mississippi Delta over the past several years and are pleased to host this first peanut field day for north Mississippi,” said Don Respess, Coahoma County Extension director.

Of the 50,000 peanut acres in the state this year, about 15,000 acres are planted in the Mississippi Delta. In 2011, the crop contributed $16 million in production value to the state’s economy.
