The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Michelle “Miki” Bowman to be a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. The final vote was 64-34.
“We must continue progress in providing regulatory relief to our nation’s community banks,” said U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kansas. “Community banks did not cause the financial crisis, and should not be regulated as if they did. Miki understands where the pain points are for community banks, and will be a strong advocate for commonsense, risk-based regulation.”
In 2015, Congress mandated that at least one seat on the Federal Reserve Board be designated for a community banking specialist.
Bowman serves as the Kansas State Bank Commissioner, where she oversees hundreds of financial institutions in Kansas. She is also involved in her family’s cattle and farm operation.
Prior to moving back to Kansas in 2010 to work for Farmers & Drovers Bank, Bowman worked in Washington, D.C. for Sen. Bob Dole, served as counsel on the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and served in the Bush Administration at the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.
