“The market is supposed to be a price discovery tool, but it has failed to be a price discovery tool in times of large crops,” says Kansas wheat farmer David Schemm.P.J. Griekspoor

National Association of Wheat Growers president David Schemm has resigned his position to pursue other opportunities in his home state of Kansas.

“During his time as president of NAWG, David helped move the wheat industry forward, grew its presence on Capitol Hill, and improved its relationship with the media and other farm organizations,” said NAWG CEO Chandler Goule.

Goule said Schemm made monthly visits to wheat states to hear directly from wheat growers about what was working and what wasn’t working.

“Schemm constantly worked to get NAWG’s priorities and messaging out by participating in weekly interviews, testifying on behalf of the organization to Congress, and took every opportunity to talk to members and agency officials on the importance of reauthorizing the Farm Bill,” Goule said.

The organization wished Schemm, who hails from Sharon Springs, Kansas, the best in his future endeavors.

“While David will be missed, I know he will continue to do important things for the state of Kansas,” Goule said. “David’s leadership will have a lasting impact on the organization and we wish his family and him all the best.

Gordon Stoner, Past President of the NAWG and a Montana farmer, will serve as president of the association until the 2018 Commodity Classic.
