Max Armstrong takes a look at the Kentucky Derby, Smithfield Food owned farm closings and a story about twin brothers in Minnesota.

Max Armstrong talks about the sudden death of four equine athletes at Churchill Downs in recently and how it’s being highlighted due to the Kentucky Derby being held this weekend and the young age of the horses which have been between 3 and 5 years old.

Smithfield Food announces it is closing 37 hog farms in Missouri. The closings are being attributed to herd health and the red ink from pork sales. The company owns 132 hog farms and leases 109 in the state.

And what a bond twin brothers have in life! Especially, a set in Minnesota where they share the last name Hart and both have had heart transplants.

Max Armstrong's Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Max Armstrong, veteran farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness.
