Max Armstrong shares the impact of avian influenza, on flocks, consumers and more.
January 24, 2023
Max Armstrong says it’s been about a year since the worst outbreak of avian influenza hit the U.S., and it continues to impact the consumer, via the cost of eggs. Flocks in South Dakota have been infected in the last few months. Nearly 4 million poultry have died since it started in the state. And officials don’t know why the outbreak is still happening. The outbreak has caused the deaths of nearly 58 million birds in 47 states. While the disease hasn’t impacted humans via infection, the Wall Street Journal confirmed the first known cases in grizzly bears.
