Futures try to sustain advance

Wheat ratings slip and ethanol booms. (Video report)

The grain market is trying to make it two in a row after starting 2018 with gains. Light but fairly steady buying helped lift corn, soybeans and wheat again overnight thanks to support from weather and demand news. Though export inspections were light last week after Christmas, ethanol usage boomed in November and soybean crush was strong as expected. Cold, dry weather also hurt winter wheat south of I-70 while temperatures heat up in Argentina.
