Arkansas livestock producers in north-central Arkansas are invited to a Drought Survival Conference set for Aug. 7 at the Quitman High School cafeteria.
Intensifying drought has dried up pastures and forced cattlemen to sell their herds.
“We want to provide our livestock producers with tools to make the best decisions possible in these very difficult economic and climate conditions,” said Danny Griffin, Van Buren County Extension staff chair.
The event will open at 6 p.m. and adjourn at 9 p.m. There’s no need to register in advance and admission is free.
On the agenda:
6 p.m. -- Tax Advice for Livestock Producers facing Herd Reduction, Kristal Conine, CPA, Clinton.
6:20 p.m. -- 300 Days Grazing Program could Increase Drought Tolerance, Danny Griffin, Van Buren County Extension staff chair.
6:40 p.m. -- Layout and Design of Grazing Systems for Forage Utilization, Kenny Simon, Extension program associate-forages.
7:10 p.m. -- Alternative Water Supplies for Livestock, Michelle Mobley, Cleburne County Extension staff chair.
7:30 p.m. -- Break-Light refreshments.
7:45 p.m. -- Alternative Feedstuff for Livestock, Shane Gadberry, associate professor-ruminant nutrition.
8:20 p.m. -- Establishing and Managing Winter Annuals for Grazing, John Jennings, professor-forages, and Steve Jones, associate professor-livestock.
9 p.m. -- Adjourn.
The high school is located at 6275 Heber Springs Road West in Quitman.
