While football is known for its "boys of fall," Missouri is just one state that is home to the calves of fall.
Missouri ranks third in the nation for beef cows behind Texas and Oklahoma. The state boasts more than 2 million beef cows, accounting for 6.48% of cows in the U.S.
The state also ranks third in calf crop. From north to south, the type of pastures these calves are born and raised on are evident from the photos. Whether green cool-season pastures in the central region or brown warm-season grasses in the south-central area, cattle producers across the country can only smile when young calves dot their landscapes.
