A half-day seminar on the benefits of a long-term “systems approach” to soil health management will be offered June 6 at the University of California’s West Side Research and Extension Center in Five Points, Calif.

Practices that will be showcased include reduced disturbance tillage and the use of cover crops and compost.

Jeff Mitchell, Cooperative Extension cropping systems specialist, says the program will also feature discussions on all components of soil biology and provide hands-on learning components to help growers better understand how to employ these principles.

Growers, soil scientists from UC Davis and representatives from the Natural Resources Conservation Service will be on hand to discuss various issues.

The event gets started at 9 a.m. and runs through 12:40 p.m. Continuing education credits of 4.5 CCA and 1.0 PCA are approved for the event. Lunch will be provided.

The event takes place at the UC West Side Research and Extension Center at 17353 W. Oakland Avenue.
