A sheriff's deputy was shot and killed at a rural intersection in North Dakota last night.

The legal battle is over between Ohio State University and its former marching band director. The director sued the university three years ago after being fired. The marching band gained national note under his direction.

Sonny Perdue will be first person from Georgia to be ag secretary. There hasn't been an ag secretary from the south for 20 years, since Mike Espy during the Clinton administration. Perdue is a veterinarian by training who operated a grain and fertilizer business. He took eight years away from the business to serve as the governor of Georgia from 2003 to 2011. He will lead the agency with a $155 billion annual budget and almost 100,000 employees.

The cost of mailing a letter increases to 49 cents from 47 cents on Sunday. The last increase was in January 2014.
