Big equipment draws a crowd

IF IT'S BIGGER, wider and has a higher capacity, chances are it got a lot of looks at this year's farm shows. Robust commodity prices had ag equipment dealers optimistic that better returns will translate into a surge in buying throughout 2008.

Landoll coulter chisel

LANDOLL DESIGNED its new 2100 series coulter chisel to handle tough residue conditions like corn on corn. Front coulter gangs are on 7½-in. spacings with 50-lb. cast spools. Heavy-duty shanks on 15-in. spacings help eliminate compaction. Landoll says the new system is designed to help destroy the previous year's root systems. Brent grain carts

THE BRENT 82 series grain carts have high capacity and a fast unloading rate. The patent-pending 22-20 turbocharged augers feature a fully recessed, 22-in.-dia. lower portion feeding the 20-in.-dia. upper portion for maximum grain-movement efficiency and double-auger speed. The result is unloading speeds of up to 625 bu./min. The 1382 model has a 1,350-bu. capacity, and the 1182 model has a 1,150-bu. capacity. Case IH Steiger tractors

CASE IH ADDS five new models to its Steiger lineup — from the 335-hp model 335 to the 535-hp model 535. Standard in the new Steiger 485 is a new compound turbocharger technology, which involves two turbo sets working in a series, providing fuel efficiency gains of up to 3%. B5 biodiesel is fully approved for all 2008 model Steiger tractors. Higher blends also can be used — B20 in all models and B100 in the 385, 435 and 485 — with use of required Case IH biodiesel maintenance practices. Killbros dual-auger cart, head carrier

THE NEW 1950 dual-auger cart from Killbros boasts a 1,100-bu. capacity and an unloading rate of more than 400 bu./min., cutting total unloading time to less than 3 min. An 8-ft. 2-in. auger reach and a 14-ft. 2-in. auger height provide easy unloading into the center of trucks. Suggested retail price is $35,470.

Also from Killbros is a six-wheel head carrier (shown) that provides convenient transportation of combine headers. It is available in 32-, 38-, 42 and 47-ft. sizes. Sunflower ripper disk

SUNFLOWER'S NEW 4412 ripper disk is available with five or seven heavy-duty auto-reset shanks spaced on 30-in. centers. Blu-Jet fertilizer injection applicator

THE BLU-JET AT6010 fertilizer injection applicator is designed for high nitrogen rate, high acreage and high residue applications. Hagie STS14 sprayer

HAGIE'S NEW addition to its STS line of sprayers — the STS14 — provides a 1,400-gal. solution tank, 19¼-in.-wide wheel package, 6 ft. of under clearance and a 275-hp engine. The 6-ft. clearance allows spraying well into the growing season for chemical or fertilizer application. A new 120-ft. boom option has nine spray sections for increased spraying precision. Fendt tractors

TWO NEW Fendt tractors were on display at the shows this year, with the Fendt 820 Vario making its first North American appearance. The 820 Vario is the new top model in the 800 series, rated at 205 hp. The 900 series features the Fendt 933 Vario, with 275 PTO hp. It's the best-selling high-horsepower series in Europe and is now available in the U.S. Suggested retail prices are $175,000 for the 820 Vario and $250,000 for the 933 Vario. BRILLION SAYS its new zone-till/strip-till hybrid is the only machine that combines zone tillage and strip tillage ability in one unit. New Holland T9050 4-wd tractor

THE NEW 485-hp, 4-wd T9050 tractor from New Holland features a 12.9-liter New Holland engine that uses a new, exclusive compound turbo technology to boost performance and fuel efficiency. Compared to the 15-liter engine in the TJ480 tractor model it replaces, the new engine produces fuel efficiency gains of up to 3% by providing extra driving torque without increasing fuel consumption.
