Ohio students garner $33,000 in scholarships

America's Farmers Grow Ag Leaders supports the next generation of agriculture

A program designed to raise awareness of the diverse career opportunities in the agriculture industry has provided 22 Ohio students with a total of $33,000 in college scholarships . The America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, engages area farmers by having them endorse students who they believe have bright futures in agriculture.

Garrett Stanfield of Manchester, Ohio, a 2016 Grow Ag Leaders scholarship recipient, exemplifies the quality of students who are a selected for Grow Ag Leaders scholarships because of his dedication to agriculture and leadership, according to Andrew Sorrell, FFA advisor at Mason County High School.  “Garrett is a true asset to the Agriculture Community and Industry. It is students like him that we need representing our industry and leading the next generation of agriculture,” says Sorrell. “His abilities and dedication to agriculture make him more than deserving of any agriculture award. I truly expect and know that he will do great things for our industry. It has been an honor and privilege to have Garrett in class and leading the Mason County FFA Chapter.”

Other Ohio winners include: Shelbi Long, Kaitlin Butterfield, Collin Dunaway, Monica Pennewitt, Kasey Hummel, Kristine Culler, Evan Smith, Cody Clyburn, Michael Schmenk, David Wise, Kayle Mast, William Trihaft, Taylor Hesse, Emma Johnson, Suzanne Kimball, Samantha Wander, Ashley Dentinger, Sydney Hoffa, Frank Becker, Jack Hagemeyer and Cody McClain

Grow Ag Leaders scholarships, administered by the National FFA Organization, are available to high school seniors and college students in 1,326 eligible counties across 40 states pursuing degrees in ag-related fields. To be considered, each applicant is required to receive endorsements from at least three local farmers. FFA members and non-FFA members are both eligible to apply. With support from the Monsanto Fund, more than $1.1 million in scholarships has been awarded to students since Grow Ag Leaders piloted in 2014.
