Bryan Kirkpatrick, Greentown, penned "Faith of a Farmer" as an autobiography not to brag on his accomplishments, but to praise God. He says he also wanted to illustrate how a family value system, coupled with faith and reliance upon letting God guide you, can lead to healthy family life, and give the next generation opportunities to pursue what God has in store for their lives.

That's why a good portion of his book, Faith of a Farmer, deals with his relationship to his parents, his relationship with his wife Susan, and their relationships with their three daughters – Laura, Andrea and Jenna.

None of this guarantees there won't be challenges, Bryan says. He relates this story in the book. After his parents passed away, it made strategic sense for Bryan and Susan to move to his parent's home where the main grain system, fertilizer storage, fuel storage and other key buildings were located. However, they had remodeled their own house in recent years, and Susan wasn't in favor of moving. In fact, Bryan says, she wasn't moving!

He told her they could add on to his parents' house, and that didn't make her budge. According to his book, the stalemate only broke when, sitting at an attorney's office finishing up details of his parents estate, Bryan told the attorney he would need a reference for a good architect.

"When she heard we would hire an architect to redo the house, she was OK with moving," Bryan relates.

Other stories concern their children. "I loved baseball and Andrea was good at softball. My dream was her playing softball in college," Bryan relates. "But she had decided she didn't want to play softball anymore. It took courage for her to tell me."

Bryan believes building relationships is all about fostering that courage, and seeking help from God to do it. That theme comes through strongly in his book.

The book is available through Kudu Publishing, and is also available in electronic versions through most major book outlets.
